Programme on "Women in Mathematics" on on 6-th May 2025

We are very happy to announce that this year the School of Mathematics, IISER TVM, is celebrating "The May 12 initiative: An Occasion to celebrate Women in Mathematics". On this occasion all are cordially invited to join the event comprising of talks on life sketches of few well known women mathematicians followed by a mathematics seminar planned on 6-th May. Please join us and make it successful.

About May12 Initiative: May 12 is the birthdate of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman mathematician who was awarded (2014) the Fields Medal for her outstanding contributions to the dynamics and geometry of Riemann surfaces and their moduli spaces. In 2017, at the early age of 40, she died tragically from cancer.

The May 12 initiative is a joyful opportunity to honour her legacy and to celebrate women in mathematics. Since May 12, 2019, the celebration takes place every year, all around the world. For more information please visit: https://may12.womeninmaths.org

The May12 initiative is supported by several organisations for women in mathematics, including Indian Women and Mathematics (IWM). The IWM is a collective of mathematicians who organise regular academic events and networking opportunities in all parts of India to promote higher education and careers in mathematics among women. Starting from this year, 2025, the May 12 initiative is officially sponsored by the Committee for Women in Mathematics (CWM).
