CMIT Event: International Women in Mathematics Day, online event on Sunday, May 12

On the occasion of International Women in Mathematics Day, CMIT is pleased to invite you to a special online event on Sunday, May 12(tomorrow) celebrating the achievements and contributions of women in mathematics.

International Women in Mathematics Day is celebrated annually on May 12 in memory of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman to receive the Fields Medal. The day serves as a global platform to highlight the work of women mathematicians and to inspire young minds to pursue mathematical sciences.

We are delighted to host two distinguished speakers who will share their insights, experiences, and research:

Speaker: Dr. Dharmatti Sheetal
Associate Professor, IISER Thiruvananthapuram

Title: Calculus of Variation, Optimal Control and Anecdote of Maria Colombo
Abstract: We will start from the history calculus of variation and connect it to modern day optimal control theory. We will briefly look at the works of Maria ColomboThe recent recipient of the 2023 Collatz Prize and 2024 Stampacchia Gold Medal in the realm of these topics.
